Anthony Lacavera, CEO of Globalive Communications, is downplaying concerns about the impact of the financial crisis on the company’s bid to become the country’s fourth national wireless player.
“Obviously the markets are very rough today and there’s speculation that new wireless entrants aren’t going to be able to move forward,” said Lacavera. “But that’s certainly not the position we’re in … we’re not revising our deployment plan for mid-2009.”
He said the parent of the Yak long distance network already has sufficient financial banking to launch its wireless business next year thanks in part to a four-year $700-million US commitment from Egypt’s Orascom Telecom, a key financial backer with extensive experience in wireless.
